Blauer Zweigelt

Zweigelt is Austria’s most widely grown red wine grape.

Its use reaches from light red wines to be enjoyed young to full-bodied wines matured in barriques. The variety is a crossing bred by Friedrich Zweigelt in 1922, later the head of the regional school for viticulture and horticulture in Klosterneuburg. This crossing was based on the varieties St. Laurent and Blaufränkisch.

Our only “red” is a wonderful red wine very typical of Südsteiermark. Fruit-based and light, it goes well with many dishes. A distinctive feature of the Zweigelt grape: it reminds us of highly mature cherries without being overwhelming.
